General Questions #

Q: What is Kiro, and how does it differ from Amazon Q Developer?

Kiro is an Agentic IDE (Integrated Development Environment) with advanced AI capabilities and enhanced user experience. Amazon Q Developer integrates with your existing IDEs (like Visual Studio Code, JetBrains, Eclipse, Visual Studio) and terminal.

Key differences:

  • Kiro is a standalone IDE built from the ground up for AI-assisted development
  • Amazon Q Developer works as plugins/extensions within existing development environments

Q: I’m an Amazon Q Developer Pro user. Can I still use Kiro after the free period ends?

After the free period ends, you’ll need to choose to subscribe to Kiro’s paid version or stay on the Free Tier (50 Vibe interactions per month).

Using via Amazon Q Developer Pro Subscription #

Note: Kiro and Amazon Q Developer are two separate products. During the preview period, developers can currently log in to experience Kiro using their Q Developer Pro account. When Kiro launches, there may be product adjustments, so please stay tuned.

Q: How do I log in to Kiro using my Amazon Q Developer Pro account?

Follow these steps to log in using your Amazon Q Developer Pro account:

  1. On the login page, select Sign in with your organization identity.

  2. On the Sign in with AWS Identity Center page:

    • Enter the Start URL (e.g., xxxx.awsapps.com/start)
    • Select the AWS region where your AWS Identity Center is configured (e.g., us-east-1)
  3. Select Continue and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the authentication process.
